Ball-jointed Dolls

Playing with Dolls
Originally uploaded by Booky DeDreamer.
I bought my first BJD, Juniper, in December 2004. Despite telling myself I would only need one $400 doll, for the next two years I was sucked into a black-hole of consumerism. Four dolls later, I started preparing to marry and move out and put my expensive BJD hobby on hiatus. I got into the dolls partly to satisfy my interest in nude photography, since the dolls are very beautiful without clothes. I discovered the added benefit of anthropomorphizing the dolls, since I home schooled and effectively lived alone for most of the hours out of the day, and the ‘doll community’ which provided hours of entertainment and amusement. If you look at my internet activity during this time I was the very definition of a Crazy Doll Person. Since then, getting laid and being broke has dampened my enthusiasm with the dolls, but it was still a very enjoyable creative outlet for me so I hope to get back into it when I have the money. My husband and I have a deal; he can build his dream library of film when I can start buying shit for my overpriced barbies.
This is a little section where you can meet my dolls. If you’d like more information on BJDs, a good place to start is the Den of Angels forums.
- Juniper
- 60cm Volks Super Dollfie 10 Nono, oldskin, B02 body.
- Juniper is at least 6 years old; I received her second-hand Feb 22nd 2005.
- My first doll, it would take a matter of life-or-death to get me to part with her. Juniper is a very sweet and mellow, naive, and usually happy personality. She has a bit of a Pinocchio complex and envies living things, or even dolls that look more lifelike than her.
- Koushirou (aka Izzy-doll)
- Custom House Little Junior Jupiter
- Izzy was made April 25th 2005, which would be my wedding date 2 years later. I bought him second-hand and received him August 1st that year.
- Digimon was my favorite TV show in elementary school; when I got older I wanted to make a doll out of him. Originally, Koushirou was supposed to mirror the TV character as much as possible, but the doll ended up being loosely inspired by his namesake.
- Charlie
- Dream of Doll Twing-key
- Received December 23rd ‘05 secondhand, I really have no idea how old this doll is.
- I don’t really know what to do with her. Originally, she was meant to be a very loud and energetic counterpart to Koushirou who is a very serious and heady. When I got her, she just didn’t seem nearly as young as Koushirou. (despite having itty-bitty-titties, her body is quite womanlike) I considered selling her, but the 40cm DoDs just aren’t as popular anymore and it’s not worth it to me to sell her for less than half of what I bought her for. I am more excited about working on Juniper and Koushirou than Charlie, so it may be awhile before she finds herself.
- Calico
- Limwha Toyou
- I sold this doll after I became engaged, although there is still photography and information on this site. She was a very beautiful doll and is missed.
